Call Jane (2022, US, drama, 121 mm., rated PG).
Phyllis Nagy’s film about abortion activists in the US in 1968 (before Roe vs. Wade) is, unfortunately, very timely today as Americans prepare to go to the polls. Elizabeth Banks plays a woman in suburban Chicago who is suddenly confronted with a life-threatening pregnancy and discovers the Jane Collective, an underground organization working to help women get safe abortions. This inspiring and important film features great performances by Banks and Sigourney Weaver.
