Writer/director Tom McCarthy has made some of the best films of the century (The Station Agent, The Visitor, Spotlight) but Win Win, from 2011, flew under the radar and you may have missed it. A struggling lawyer who moonlights as a high school wrestling coach (played wonderfully by Paul Giamatti) gets into trouble when a scheme to bring in some much-needed money begins to unravel. The intelligent, funny and humanizing screenplay about the ordinary lives of ordinary people asks some vital questions as its characters try to find a win-win solution.
