January 6: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri (Comedy/Drama, USA, 115 min., 2017, rated R). After seven months have passed without a culprit in her daughter’s murder case, Mildred Hayes makes a bold move, painting three signs leading into her town with a controversial message directed at the town’s revered chief of police. When his second-in-command, Officer Dixon, doesn’t take kindly to the provocation, the battle between Mildred and Ebbing’s law enforcement is only exacerbated. This film won multiple awards, including the Oscar for Best Actress.
